Lead Wichita pledges $10,000 to growing inclusive leadership in 2020

Lead Wichita today announced it is committing $10,000 to grow inclusive leadership through scholarships for its 2020 programming. This year’s commitment further builds on the organization’s focus on growing leadership in an inclusive way and breaking down barriers to access leadership training.

“Empowering leaders today looks different than it ever has before,” said Damon Young, Lead Wichita 2020 chair. “Lead Wichita seeks to provide opportunities for people to combine their passion, drive and enthusiasm with an environment that helps equip and inspire them to take their leadership skills further.”

Throughout the past three years, Lead Wichita has dedicated more than $30,000 to provide scholarships for access to leadership training through the Global Leadership Summit (GLS). In 2019, the organization began a “Rising Leaders” initiative to break down the barriers that attempt to keep leaders trapped in the ruts of daily life and inspire them to grow in their leadership skills in order to use in their own everyday circles and wherever they have influence.

“Leadership does not require a college education, corner office or tailored corporate attire,” said Jae Hedrick, Lead Wichita 2020 Inclusion and Access chair. “The truth is that many have likely gained leadership skills from a hard and consistent work ethic – volunteering to take extra shifts, a willingness to learn new skills, taking initiative to improve processes, and helping friends and family solve problems.”

2020 Rising Leaders applications now open

Applications are now open for this year’s Rising Leaders initiative. Scholarships are available to cover registration fees and expenses such as transportation, childcare or time away from work for eligible participants to participate in GLS Online. Rising Leaders also benefit from a coaching/mentoring session prior to the event and a network of contacts from fellow attendees. Access the application or nominate a recipient at LeadWichita.org.

This year’s GLS, planned for Aug. 6-7, will be delivered via simulcast directly to registrants and to small site gatherings throughout the city. GLS Online 2020 will include high-value, actionable leadership insights from world-class faculty, plus new interactive experiences, all while viewing conveniently from your business, church, organization or home at an affordable price.

Registration for GLS Online is only $99 (normally $189) using the code 20TGLSWICHITA at LeadWichita.org. Each GLS Online ticket registration will also provide access to a GLS Catalyst event being planned for later this year in Wichita.
